Robert T. “Bobby” Drakeford | CEO
A Charlotte native, Bobby returned home to join the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) office as an Estate Tax Attorney upon graduating from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law in 1991. His duties included the interpretation of legal documents for compliance with the IRS regulations and the valuation of real estate and closely held corporations. Bobby held this position with the IRS until he joined the Trammell Crow Company as an analyst in 1995 where he performed financial and market analysis for the development and brokerage groups.
Bobby also developed The Lexington on Mallard Creek Apartments and the Central Carolina’s Urban League office while at Trammell Crow. The Lexington was awarded Trammell Crow Residential Services Southeast Property of the Year Award in 2000.
Bobby founded The Drakeford Company in 2001 with an emphasis on affordable multi-family development. After completing the 276-unit Citiside apartment community in 2003, Bobby redirected the company’s focus to the for-sale urban housing sector. He completed eight for-sale projects with nearly 200 units in Charlotte, the market value which exceeded $50.0MM. As a real estate broker, Bobby has concentrated his efforts on land assembly and real estate owned (REO) disposition in a brokerage capacity for the following clients: Bank of America, Home Federal Savings and Loan, Mecklenburg County, New Dominion Bank, Wood Partners, Greystar, Woodfield Investments, Levine Properties, The Affordable Housing Group of NC and Northwood Ravin.
Bobby acquired all sites The Drakeford Company developed, including 22 parcels for the Midwood Central project. His most significant land assembly achievement was second top producing broker on the Bank of America Gateway project where a 1M square foot mixed-use development in downtown Charlotte was assembled.
Bobby earned an MBA from Wake Forest University after receiving his BS in Accounting from Elon University in 1986. He has been admitted to the N.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and the N.C. Bar Association. Both licenses were voluntarily placed on inactive status in 2007. He holds a N. C. Real Estate Broker’s license. Bobby has been a member of the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU), the Urban Land Institute and played an active role in numerous local political campaigns and civic organizations.
